64bit MAY BE FAST BUT SLOW TO SHOW
AMD must be drumming their fingers on the table. They were the first to introduce a 64bit processor and it has been out for a while. However, they have yet to see the 64bit operating system to go with it. Microsoft announced another delay of the release of their 64bit Windows operating system. It is now slated for 4th quarter. This must be extremely frustrating for AMD as the sales of their Athlon64 and Opteron processors are in a slump. Microsoft is blaming security issues for the delay. Bill Gates stated that within the next 2 years 64bit PC’s will be mainstream.
On the subject of security, it was announced that the creator of the Sasser virus has been arrested. A teenager from Germany created this annoying little bug stating that his intention was to create a worm that would combat the Mydoom and Bagle virus’ removing them from infected computers. Although this sounds like a bogus excuse, it is interesting to see that such young people are learning to do these things. It brings up a lot of concerns for the future. I know that if I were taught the things they are teaching in school these days I would be extremely dangerous or extremely good. So what are we producing in our schools these days?
