SO LONG ATHLON XP
AMD Athlon XP processors have been around for long time. They are finally riding off into the sunset. The only ones left are 2600 and 2800. Those should be gone within the next few weeks. Those of you with a socket 462 motherboard wanting to upgrade may want to take a look at your board manufacturer and see if they have a BIOS update so you can run Sempron. I know the thought of downgrading your cache isn’t what you want but when you compare the specs of the Sempron and a slower XP, you may be surprised. The Sempron performance has surprised us. AMD is pushing Athlon64 and Sempron 754 pin but both of these processors will require you to replace your motherboard if you are currently running an XP processor.
The problem with the ICH5 south bridge has died down somewhat. It appears that those that are going to die have already died. However, we still see about 2 per week. These are the poor unfortunate souls who never used their front USB until after the board was out of warranty. We will always replace what we can but time isn’t forgiving. If you have been doing business with us for any period of time you know that we will handle all warranty claims for you even if it is outside our 1 year warranty. We only charge a modest shipping and handling fee. We know what a hassle RMA’s can be for you.
The system configurations have been fixed on the price list. We did some minor updates and we will be revamping the systems soon to include Athlon64’s, Dual Cores, Carputers etc.
