THIS AND THAT

There isn’t a whole lot to talk about lately regarding new technology.  Not to say that there isn’t any but rather that it is not very exciting.  As the 4^th quarter starts up we are seeing the usual.  Prices start creeping up; especially RAM which has risen about 30% in the last few months.  Availability on some of the new hardware has become a little scarce.  There are a lot of new gadgets but nothing that really stands out.  I think we’re in for a somewhat ho-hum holiday. 

Two things I will mention about processors.  AMD’s AM2 processor is definitely the best bang for the buck right now and the performance is impressive.  It definitely smokes the competition on the same performance rating (PR) level.  However, if you want lightening fast, the Intel Core2 Duo has impressed us more than any other newly released CPU.  The last time I was impressed with Intel was when hyper-threading was introduced several years ago.  The Core2 Duo blows everything else away and it does it with a slower clock speed!  That’s impressive!

Lastly, Microsoft Vista will be released shortly.  If you haven’t played with a beta copy yet I suggest you do so.  It is a whole new learning curve.
